Taylor Russell McKenzie, who was born in Vancouver on July 18, 1994, grew up in Toronto and Vancouver. [1][2] Russell was born to black parents and a white mother, is bi-racial and was raised mostly on her mother's family. She told me that as a young girl she was not accepted by her peers because of the complexion of her skin. Her parents were struggling financially and were forced to move sixteen times in order to work for her father. In spite of this, Russell mentioned how in her younger days "there was always a chance for innovation, to design something new."As growing up, Russell was already artistically inclined, at first, she desired to pursue a profession in ballet, and later be a painter. At eighteen, she took her first acting class and eventually found her niche. She saved the money from work to purchase a car and drove off to Los Angeles to audition. She would return to work once her savings ran out and then resume auditioning again. The process continued for four years until she was finally offered her first TV role on television.
