She reported on sports for several of the biggest media outlets across the country. Her tenure working at The Washington Post was spent covering numerous Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis as well as basketball and football. Nichols was awarded two Emmy Awards during her nine-year period working for ESPN as well as being featured on the most watched programs like NFL Countdown or SportsCenter, changed to ESPN following the year 2004. Nichols was also a part of the network's Monday Night Football broadcasts as an on-line reporter. Following her departure from ESPN, her next station was CNN as well as Turner Sports. Unguarded With Rachel Nichols was the first show she created and hosted. It aired on CNN International as well as CNN. Over a billion viewers watched the show worldwide. Nichols was a reporter at TNT at the time, reporting on NBA broadcasts such as playoff games, regular season games or teams from the All-Star league. Also, she reported for TBS reporting on golf and baseball broadcasts and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. Only the second woman has been selected amongst more than 200 nominees over the long history of this award.
