Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaker. Feminist Frequency is a website where you can find videos and other commentary analysing portrayals women in pop media and popular. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards in her field, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency an online platform dedicated to education, which examines female roles in popular culture, is directed by Sarkeesian. Aiming to break down the stereotypes about women and popular culture, she is also working to raise issues related to the targeted harassment of women, as well as the marginalized groups of individuals in the internet space. Sarkeesian who has an MS in Political and Social Thinking with a degree from York University, is also well-known as a sought-after public speaking. She has given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO Festival and United Nations Broadband Working Group to Gender. As a child Sarkeesian was intrigued by questions of gender identity as well as feminist theories. As a student, in 2009, she launched her Feminist Frequency site. The woman with ambitions to begin a web program that examined gender representations in video games and found herself at the center of an online harassment campaign. But the harassment did not hinder her. The experience only strengthened her journalistic skills as a feminist. Her significant contributions in the field of feminists have been recognized by numerous awards.
